Queen Beauty Institute- Community Give Back Day!

Happy Monday lovely Queens! It’s almost SEPTEMBER!? This summer has flown by, and we hope you’re ready for fall weather, sweaters, boots, pumpkins, and allllllll that! Maybe… cause like COVID variants are running wild, and fall & winter might be #cancelled. But hey, we might as well try to look forward to something, right? One of the more exciting things on QBI’s fall agenda: Community Give Back Days! We’re creating partnerships with other schools, foundations, universities, and businesses in order to offer pampering services to our community. Queen Beauty Institute is filled with clients today, but not just ANY clients… young aspiring beauty professionals!

Our partnership today is with the Alexis Baxter Foundation! This foundation provides activities, mentorship, and professional opportunities for girls ages 9-15. They run a summer camp for younger girls to begin learning and hone in on their passions! You can check it out here.

Our day of services started at 9AM. The young aspiring beauty professionals arrived with their parents– never forget about consultation forms Queens!! We made sure our bases were covered with parent/guardian approval and signatures, and then our students were able to start their work. The clients were treated to manicures, pedicures, shampoo services, blow dry and hair styling services, and eyebrow waxes.

Since these clients in particular were a part of the Alexis Baxter Foundation, we knew they already had some interest in the beauty industry; we wanted to offer them as many services as possible to demonstrate the diversity and opportunity available in our industry.

Unfortunately, Queens, with the mask mandate having returned to Philadelphia and COVID variant cases increasing, offering services that require mask removal gets really tricky. In order to keep our staff and students safe, Queen Beauty Institute isn’t performing those services (facials, lip waxes, chin waxes, etc.) on unvaccinated individuals. With the risk of exposure and potentially having to shut down the school, it’s just too dangerous right now! So, our clients today weren’t able to receive facials. But hey!! That’s life, right? And learning to deal with the not-so-great things that life throws us is an important part of education– so we offered eyebrow and body waxing instead.

Only a couple of young clients decided to try waxing– most of them eyebrow waxes. This was ideal for our Esthetic students who ALWAYS need practice waxing eyebrows. Plus, all students need experience working on all different kinds of clients! Our resident brow expert, Ms. Teka, had some great 1 on 1 time with students to help them truly perfect the craft. Most students at Queen Beauty Institute are able to have 1 on 1 time with an instructor at least once throughout their program!

Almost all our clients today got their nails done, so our Nail Techs in Training got some EXCELLENT experience trying to work at a salon pace! It’s an entirely different ballgame when you’re working with a time limit, OR a waiting room full of clients. Today, they had both! Although the students may have been a bit stressed, they did a wonderful job in practicing professionalism and technical skills.

Classroom in Queen Beauty Institute

We don’t know if you’ve heard, but we recently had new Cosmetology AND Hair Braiding classes start. We challenged those students today with their first clients! They haven’t been working on real life people because they started literally 2 weeks ago, but they were able to step up to the challenge today. They practiced on fundamental skills: shampooing, blow drying, and styling.

After everyone received their services, the young aspiring clients sat in our Cosmetology classroom and heard from the instructors and administrator. Queen Beauty Institute’s passionate instructors were able to share a bit about themselves and what they can offer students everyday. Our new Cosmetology and Hair Braiding students also spoke to the young girls– it was inspirational to hear where our students have been, the hardships they’ve made it through, and the passion they have for our industry.

Queen Beauty Institute’s Community Give Back Day was a huge success! We can’t wait for the next one… Which may be coming up soon! 🙂

Thanks for reading Queens; Toodles <3
