Our Natural Hair Braiding Curriculum

The curriculum goes far beyond braiding hair. As part of our course 30 hours are dedicated to professional practices, including salon safety, sanitation and disinfection, and professional image.

Then, 125 hours are spent on science, scalp care, and anatomy. This is an important part of the curriculum, since students get the chance to learn about hair types, hair products and chemistry, and diseases of the hair and scalp.

We also spend 125 hours on cognitive and manipulative skills, which is where most of the fun happens! From managing textured hair to doing beautiful box braids, we show students how to create stunning hairstyles on many different types of hair.

What’s the class schedule like?

You can attend this course part-time from 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM on Monday – Wednesday. The course lasts a total of 13 weeks, and during that time, students must commit to attending 24 hours each week.

When are the class start dates for this program?

The program starts every 13 weeks.

2024 Start Dates Include: January 29th, April 8th, July 8th, and October 7th.

How long is the natural hair braiding program?

Our natural hair braiding program is only 300 clock hours. It’s designed to last 13 weeks, which is a little over three months long.

How much does your natural hair braiding program cost?

Starting Fees

Due before program begins:

  1. Registration – $250: Necessary to hold your place in class. Non refundable.
  2. Lab Kit Fee – $950: Mandatory for attending. Non refundable.

Tuition Fees

  1. Full tuition: $5,500
  2. State Testing Application fee: $250: Necessary for Licensure

Total Tuition AND Fees: $6,950

Queen Beauty Institute prefers for cash payments to be under $1000.

The Enrollment Process

Do you want to learn the art of hair braiding? Imagine being able to make neat and consistent braids, create natural up-dos, and advise people about braid care and removal. This is all within reach, and it starts by getting your hair braiding education at Queen Beauty Institute. Contact us to learn more about the program and book a tour of our campus in Philadelphia, PA.

When you’re ready to enroll, the process is simple and straightforward here at Queen Beauty Institute. First, we recommend scheduling a tour of our campus in Philadelphia, PA, if you haven’t done so already. Once you decide to apply for our hair braiding program, you’ll need to keep these requirements in mind:

  • You must be at least 16 years old
  • Provide a copy of your state/federal issued photo ID
  • Provide a copy of your high school diploma, GED, home school diploma approved by the US Department of Education showing completion of High School, or official transcripts showing high school completion
  • Complete the student application
  • Complete the enrollment contract and pay the registration fee of $250

Submitting the student application lets us know you’re serious about enrolling in the program. After you submit the application, we’ll contact you within 1-2 weeks. From there, we’ll figure out a time for you to come in and fill out the enrollment contract. Last but not least, you’ll pay the registration fee and that will secure your seat in class!
